Woman Who Called a Child the N-Word on a Playground Raises Over $650,000 to Relocate
A woman seen in a viral video using a racial slur against a Somali child at a Minnesota park has become the focus of nationwide controversy—not just for the incident itself, but for the overwhelming amount of money raised on her behalf in the aftermath.

More than $675,000 has been donated to a fundraising campaign believed to be connected to the woman involved in the April 28 incident in Rochester, Minnesota. The video, filmed by bystander Sharmake Omar, shows the woman confronting a child and admitting on camera to calling him the N-word. She claimed the child had taken items from her son’s diaper bag.
As the footage spread online, backlash was swift. But surprisingly, so was support—for the woman. A fundraiser launched on the platform GiveSendGo quickly amassed hundreds of thousands of dollars, with many of the donations coming from anonymous users or people using names and comments linked to white supremacist beliefs. Pseudonyms like “White Unity Will Unite,” “White Rise,” and “Black Excellence Fatigue” appeared alongside donations, often paired with hateful or racist messages.
Some donors referenced Nazi symbolism or posted open attacks on Black communities. One user wrote, “They call us racist because we are white. Nothing will ever make them happy,” before donating. Another added, “Do not apologize. Do not be afraid. These people are cowards,” while sending money to support the woman.

After widespread attention, the comment section of the fundraiser was removed. Jacob Wells, co-founder of GiveSendGo, confirmed that comments were disabled due to “unacceptable volume of racist and derogatory remarks.” He also stated that no money would be released until the organizer’s identity was verified.
GiveSendGo, which bills itself as a Christian crowdfunding platform, prohibits campaigns related to abortions, gender reassignment, and other specific categories. It is not yet confirmed whether the woman featured in the video created the campaign or is directly connected to it. GiveSendGo co-founder Heather Wilson told NBC News that the fundraising campaign had not yet cleared full verification.

Meanwhile, the Rochester branch of the NAACP launched its own fundraiser to support the child and his family. That effort raised over $341,000 before being closed in accordance with the family’s wishes. “Love wins,” the organization said in a statement. “We stand in full solidarity with the child and his family.”
The Rochester Police Department has completed its investigation and turned over the case to the city attorney’s office for further review.

In the viral video, the woman can be seen walking away while holding her own child. When asked if she used the slur, she replies, “Yeah,” and repeats her accusation that the boy took her son’s belongings.
What began as a disturbing moment caught on camera has since turned into a much broader conversation about race, hate, and the troubling ways some online communities rally around those accused of racist behavior.
