6-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in Southwest Baltimore Home

A 6-year-old boy was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a Southwest Baltimore home, Police Commissioner Richard Worley confirmed Saturday.
Officers responded to a call about a shooting around 2:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Vine Street. When they arrived, they discovered the child alone in the home with a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
On Monday, police identified the boy as Micah Comegys.
Commissioner Worley said it is still unclear who fired the shot or if the incident was accidental. A single handgun was recovered from the home.
“What we do know is that we have a family and a community mourning the death of another young person,” Worley said. “Sadly, we hold these press conferences far too often because children are gaining access to guns that should be secured by responsible adults.”
He added that if the firearm was not properly stored, the gun’s owner will face prosecution.
Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case. Victim services and peer support teams were also dispatched to assist officers and anyone else in need.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact detectives at 410-396-2100 or reach out to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
