Marlon Wayans recently joined Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson on their IMO podcast, alongside his own brother, fellow actor Damon Wayans. While the conversation covered everything from growing up in close-knit families to their Hollywood legacies, it took a powerful and personal turn when Marlon opened up about his transgender son, Kai.

The father of three shared how Kai’s transition sparked a transformation in him as well. “When they went through the transition, I actually went through the transition of denial to complete acceptance,” he said. “And it took me a week to get there.” That week changed everything. It forced Marlon to face parts of himself that needed growth and opened his heart in ways he didn’t expect.

“Unconditional love,” he emphasized. “That’s what I learned.” Marlon admitted that for any parent, accepting change can be hard—especially when it’s unexpected—but for him, the love he feels for his child has always come first. “I’m a father. I’m always going to defend them. I’m always going to protect them. There’s nothing anybody could ever tell me.”

Even when that love cost him relationships, he didn’t flinch. “I lost people who are small-minded, small-hearted, and self-loathing, so goodbye,” he said. “For every one I lose, I gain 150 more.”

Marlon also took a moment to call out judgmental attitudes from others. “If you stop loving your child because of their life choices, that’s a poor reflection on you,” he said. “I’m not God. Only God can judge.”

As Kai’s uncle, Damon Wayans also spoke up. He acknowledged that he doesn’t always know the right things to say or do, but he’s open to learning. “I love Kai,” Damon said. “I never want him to feel judged by me.”

Marlon, however, made one thing crystal clear—supporting his son isn’t up for debate. From respecting Kai’s pronouns to standing up against public figures who spread hate, like Elon Musk, Marlon is loud and proud about where he stands. “Are you a good person?” he asked. “That’s all I care about.”

He closed the conversation with humor and heart. Joking about how he’d sneak his son into heaven if he had to, Marlon added, “I’m going to love my baby.”

In a world where acceptance still has a long way to go, Marlon Wayans is leading by example—with patience, protection, and pure love.
