Mystics Draft Citron, Iriafen, and Amoore, Ushering in a New Era

The Washington Mystics are looking toward the future and rebuilding with purpose, selecting Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, and Georgia Amoore in the 2025 WNBA Draft. This talented trio promises to bring energy and versatility to a team entering a new chapter following the retirement of franchise icon Elena Delle Donne.
Citron, the third overall pick from Notre Dame, leaves college as one of the program’s most decorated players. The 6’1″ guard scored 1,774 points in her collegiate career, also tallying over 700 rebounds and 300 assists. Her senior season was particularly noteworthy, with averages of 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game on 48.4% shooting. Citron’s ability to deliver in high-pressure scenarios was on display during the NCAA Tournament when she dropped 24 points and 7 rebounds against SFA and hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer in an OT thriller against NC State.
Iriafen, taken fourth overall, joins from USC and brings dominance in the paint. The 6’3″ forward averaged 18.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game during her final season, earning the Katrina McClain Award as the nation’s best power forward. She turned heads in the NCAA Tournament with a 36-point, 9-rebound performance that emphasized her ability to control the interior. Iriafen’s mix of scoring and rebounding gives Washington a post presence the team has been seeking.
Rounding out the trio is sixth overall pick Amoore, a 5’6″ point guard who played her final season at Kentucky after three standout years at Virginia Tech. Amoore averaged 19.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 2.3 rebounds last season. Known for her sharpshooting and playmaking, she broke records, including a program-high 39 points in a single game at UVA and a single-game assist record of 16.
The Mystics are laying a foundation for success with Citron’s two-way brilliance, Iriafen’s post-dominance, and Amoore’s dynamic facilitation. While Delle Donne’s retirement marks the end of an era, this trio offers Washington fans plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the future. The Mystics are clearly building a roster capable of returning to championship contention.
